Hate to Love
This is probably one of the most difficult to write. Throughout the bible, it shares a story of loving those who we just absolutely hate. It's to love those who have done us wrong. It's to love those who have treated us with little respect. It's to love those who are the utmost evil. It's to love those, those people that as human beings we just cannot love. When we love them, we show we have forgiven them, but as us -- being part of this world, are we ready for that?
"Jesus is calling us to be willing to suffer anything and forsake everything for the sake of the Gospel. His call is to love those who have cheated us in business; those who have spread nasty rumors about us; those who would kill us if they could; those who disagree with us politically, practically, and fundamentally. His call is to consider everything a loss for His sake. His call is for total surrender. He calls us to give up all that we have to give even to the point of offering up our lives as a living sacrifice. His call means realizing that His power is made perfect in our weakness, that when we are weak we are strong." -- Francis Chan, Forgotten God
I don't know about you, but for me, there are people who have hurt me, kicked me when I was down, untrustworthy, liars, disrespectful that I don't know if I can ever be friends with. There are people that I talk to now and I can't fully forgive them. I may feel this way, but Jesus has provided me with an abundance love of forgiving grace to be able to do this, this love for those we hate. It's because of Him dying for my sins on that tree to forgive me of the sins I've committed, and will commit in the future. This is hard to explain -- Jesus dying on the cross for us is difficult to fathom, and believe. But once believed, and lived out -- I can't even explain the humbleness, peace, and joy life offers when it's understood. God sent His one and only Son to save us, when we did NOT deserve it at all.
If we don't love, if we don't forgive, we are just like everyone else around us. We are not different than anyone. But because God told us to love our deepest, meanest enemy, that's where the world can go, "Whoa, how is he/she loving such an evil monster?" This is a radical faith.
Instead of what God's plan for me for the future is, we need to ask what is God's plan and will for me today, at this moment, right now? Where will the Spirit lead me today? When we ask for God's will for the far future it's making an excuse for us to continue to live in this earthly realm at the present moment rather than to live by the Spirit. Jesus died for us to follow HIM not to follow ourselves or have Him follow us around. "But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh... If we live the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit" -- Galatians (5:16,25)
I pray this prayer over and over again many times daily. I pray we are led by the Holy Spirit. Not just be led by the Spirit but to be filled with the Spirit, breath the Spirit with each step we take and each second we're thinking and awake. If we are led by the Spirit we are less likely to sin. Being led by the Spirit continuously, daily, every moment will get you pass all the sin. Once led by the Spirit, it brings a peace over our life that we forget to want. HE brings us to become humble with life, and count the too many blessing we have. I pray for us to want the Spirit and not fear what lies ahead as we walk with it. I pray after we receive the Spirit and understand the miraculous death Jesus provided for us to live this life, we can learn to serve one another, love another, and forgive one another. Not just for you but for me as well. I pray this over all of us to live a life of radical faith.
I love you T & M!
